I’ve known Gretchen a little bit through mutual friends and thought about her for my Vintage Beauty project. She is a talented singer and musician and I saw photos of her performing in dreamy vintage dresses. I thought I should contact her to see if any of them might be her mother’s or grandmother’s. But before I did, she responded to my Facebook posting looking for women for this project. I love coincidences like that!

It turned out that Gretchen has both dresses from her mother AND grandmother. For our shoot we chose a beautiful lavender dress that her mom made to attend her sister’s wedding. Gretchen seemed very much into my ideas that drive this project – the link between several generations of women, infatuation with the past and memories. While editing the photos, I spent a lot of time listening to Gretchen’s music and it’s surprising how well it resonated with the images. I highly recommend listening to Low Roses below while viewing the images.

Also, Gretchen has recently released her new album, Primal Rumble. Congratulations Gretchen!
