I just love doing engagement sessions lately! It gives both the photographer and the couple so much freedom to pick locations and the best time of the day to photograph. Most importantly, it allows me to spend plenty of time on what I love doing the most – couple portraits. When we were brainstorming locations, Sarah and Jason told me about John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge. I haven’t been there before and was really excited to check it out. It’s such an awesome spot to be surrounded by nature! And the best part – it’s right by the Philadelphia Airport, so only 20-30 min or so from Center City. So Sarah and Jason took me on an adventure there and showed me their favorite spots. It was perfect! We started the shoot in their neighborhood, Northern Liberties, because it’s meaningful to them and has plenty of character. We got a great variety of images, some with an urban feel and some in nature. The timing worked out perfect because we ended up in the wildlife refuge before sunset and took advantage of the beautiful pre-sunset light that makes for romantic, soft and glowy images. Being in one of their favorite secret spots that they visit regularly made Sarah and Jason feel comfortable and I loved how natural they were after the initial few minutes after we met. So yeah, adventurous engagement sessions in nature with cool couples? Yes, please!!!
