When Holly and Matt reached out about their wedding, I knew we were going to be a great fit. Their venue, Martha, is my favorite bar in Fishtown/Kensington and actually probably in Philly in general! It’s only a few blocks from our studio and Holly and Matt’s house. Martha is a perfect venue for a modern intimate wedding with a casual and laid-back yet stylish vibe. Which is exactly the vibe Holly and Matt were going for. Moreover, Holly and Matt have backgrounds in hospitality, so having amazing food and drinks was important to them. One of the advantages of getting married at a restaurant or bar is that you already know the food and drinks are going to be amazing! Another cool detail is that most of their vendors are based right in the neighborhood as well.
To start the day, Holly and Matt got ready and spent the morning at Archway Fishtown, a modern and minimal boutique hotel right on Frankford Ave. From there, the couple walked to Martha with their family members and friends taking photos along the way. I LOVE the idea of walking through your neighborhood on your wedding day! We even made a stop at their house to say hello to their pup and get some photos with him!
Holly and Matt’s multicultural ceremony was held on the patio in Martha’s private backyard. A family friend officiated their ceremony that mixed together elements from Hindu and Jewish cultures. Madeline from Madeline’s Mobile Flower Truck did a fantastic job bringing a pop of vibrant color to decorate the space. Afterwards, their free-flowing reception allowed their guests to mingle both inside and outside of Martha in the backyard. One of the couple’s friends made an impromptu speech and that was the only “formal event” of the evening. There was no assigned seating, so their guests mingled while enjoying appetizers, raw bar and family-style dinner. Later in the evening, Snacktime Philly really brought the party vibe and had everyone dancing.
To sum up, I really believe that a wedding should be a reflection of the couple and their personalities. There are no rules and no right or wrong way to have your celebration. Holly and Matt’s wedding felt like them in the best way possible and I’m so honored I got to witness and document it!
